Lookbook: Legally Married

First of all, I really wanted to say thank you for all my readers and commenters leaving me such sweet comments about us getting married and our ceremony. I haven’t had time to comment back like I usually do but I appreciate every one of your comments! Several of you have asked about the dress so of course I had to do a lookbook on what we wore.

I literally bought this dress about 2 hours before we headed to the courthouse. I had ordered a dress from Shopbop.com that I thought would work, but it didn’t. It also didn’t arrive until the day before, so my only choice was to go shopping the day of. We went to every single store/boutique that downtown had to offer and ended up loving this one the most.

What I’m Wearing:
Dress: BCBG
Shoes: Gucci

What He’s Wearing:
Suit: Banana Republic
Shirt: Lova
Shoes: Hugo Boss

J bought this suit just a few days before so we were both sporting brand new duds. (Can you expect anything less from us?) I went into a frenzy trying to find sliver shoes to go with this dress until it hit me that my Gucci’s that I was saving for our wedding were sitting in my closet. Well, I was going to get married that day, so why not break them out! They have such pretty rhinestones that glittered in the sunlight.

Doesn’t J look great in his Lova shirt that I had posted about previously? We recently made a change and bought him a new shirt to wear to the wedding in Jamaica so he decided to wear this one for the ceremony. It looked so great with his new suit.

Husband and Wife!

I kept the jewelry simple and clean, with sparkly bangles, a cocktail ring and hoop earrings.

I thought about pulling my hair back with a flower or some kind of embellishment but decided that it just wasn’t me and didn’t want to not look like me on the day we got married.

I had my brother take pictures of us and then I noticed that he wasn’t capturing our shoes so I yelled at him to make sure that he got them. J decided to be funny and really make sure that you could see my shoes.

This was taken on the deck of the courthouse that I mentioned previously. You can’t see the view but the deck is huge, isn’t it?

So that, my friends is what we wore to get legally married. It was basically like what we are going to wear to our wedding but just toned down.

Oh and Miss Burb brought up a good point about what we are actually celebrating as our anniversary. I told J that he better buy a good calendar because he’s going to have to remember 3 anniversaries. Our ceremony, our wedding and our first date. HA! Like that’s going to happen. I think that we are just going to go with the ceremony date as our anniversary since this is when we really became husband and wife. How did you/are you going to do it? Did you all forego the “first date” anniversary? I think eventually we will but I can’t let it go now. How could we? We’ve celebrated it for the past 7 years!

OMG. HB and I are totally lame – mostly HB though. We never really had an “anniversary” date and after a couple years I was annoyed that we never got to celebrate so he let me just pick a day.

    Hahaha. It’s January 17.

He wanted me to change it to the summer after the first time we celebrated because he felt it was too close to Christmas, and I was like “Does that mean I get two anniversary celebrations this year?” He said no so the January date stuck. 😉

I’m pretty much in love with your outfit. You both look amazing! Thanks for sharing your story, I have a similar one and was feeling a little down about not “technically” being married on our actual ceremony taking place at a later date but this makes me feel better 🙂 glad to see there are others out there like me!

LRB – that’s awesome that he just let you pick. Did you have any reason to the date or you were just like the 17th sounds good!

And too funny that he then wanted you to change it to the summer. LOL!

Jessica – Um yea, this is the guy that can’t even remember what he ate for lunch yesterday! he’s not going to remember any of the dates.

heidz – thank you! I’m glad we have similar stories. It’s pretty rare occurence and I was apprehensive about it at first, but now I wouldn’t change anything about it.

you are totally the reason I’m growing my hair out. if mine looks half as good as yours, I’ll be happy.

I think it’s really sweet that you celebrate your first date. He already remembers the date (or has it on his calendar) so you might as well keep celebrating!

by the way, that dress looks WAY better on you then on the model. I’m not sure I would have bought it with her wearing it, but if you were the model, I’d have spent my savings. Of course, I’m a little Asian-biased 😉

my fiance and I celebrate our first date but after the wedding I don’t think we will. Not that we won’t mention it, it just won’t be made into a big thing. Our wedding anniversary and first date are too close. whatever works for you guys though! again, congratulations. Both of you looked great.

    p.s. I like your blog

miss burb – aww thanks! I’m still trying to grow mine out longer. I want it a couple inches longer than now for the wedding.

yeah, he does actually remember the date of our first date which is quite surprising. I always expect him to forget every year.

And I agree about the model and that dress. haha. I showed J and told him that if I had seen it online, I would never have purchased it.

Diabolina – thank you. It really is, and I’m so happy that I was able to get one of the few. However, I def. had a hand in “molding” him to be that way. hehe.
