That Bride hair do

Jenna, of That Bride recently posted a fabulous how to video of a really cute updo and her video was just so cute and helpful that I was inspired. Now, I'm not typically an updo kind of girl. You will hardly ever see me with my hair up, even on formal occasions. I like to keep my hair long and flowy as much as possible, but I'm always up for mixing things up so why not try it out?

On Saturday morning, I gathered my bobby pins and went at it. I have to say, it's actually very simple to do but looks way better than I had expected.

Here is Jenna's version.

And here is my version.

Sorry it's kind of hard to see but black hair is a bit hard to photograph.

Mine is a little bit tighter because my hair is shorter, but it's still the same concept and I think both ways look really good. It's a tad messy because of my digital perm, my hair wanted to stick out every which way, but it gives it character right? ;)

The flower is a recent DIY. I was at the craft store buying yarn for my latest project and saw that they had all these artificial flowers on clearance so I picked up a bunch and decided to try my hand at making it into a hair decoration. It was fairly easy, I just ripped apart the flower and then glued together separate pieces of the flower petals that I liked. Added some rhinestones and a bobby pin and voila, hair decor made easy! It actually looks a lot like something I saw at Nordstrom but cost about $80. I used a bunch of things that I already had so the only thing I purchased was the flower (that was part of a bunch) and that cost me a whole $4. I still have the rest of the flowers left over but that is another project that I'm working on!

Oh and if you are wondering, here is the what the front looks like.

I'm a bit embarrassed because I was in a hurry and just stuck on my lashes super quick and had J snap a picture. I didn't notice until after I saw the picture that the lashes looked a bit wonky but oh well, I didn't feel like taking another picture.

By the way, Jenna's video even made it to Glamour Beauty blog! Check her out here! She's famous! =)

My Birthday Present!

Soooo... since it is almost my birthday I decided it would be okay to reveal what J got me for me.

J has always been an excellent gift giver so I don't tend to pick out my own presents as I'm usually happy with what he picks out. He already had an idea of what he wanted to get me and yes, it was an LV bag but he told me that we should just look while we were in Portland. Turns out, I ended up getting what he wanted to get me anyway. Here it is!!

The Monogram Neverfull

I've got such a thing for big bags and I really wanted something that I could take to work, fit all my documents and my laptop and also be able to travel with. This ended up fitting perfectly and I'm totally happy! You can cinch up the sides and it makes it into a smaller bag which is nice when I'm not carrying that much stuff.

If you are wondering, this is the MM size. I knew for sure that PM would be too small so I didn't even bother trying it out. I debated between the GM and the MM for awhile but decided that the GM was just too big.

J also ended up getting something for himself...

check it out, the new Damier Graphite. Soooo pretty!

J hates carrying too much stuff in his pockets so he's always carried a slim wallet. I'm in love with the dark grey. I wish they made this color for the womens line.

We will be celebrating my official birthday this weekend so expect some wild antics to come! HA! just kidding. just a low key birthday for me. I think I'll have a big blowout for when I hit 30, but this year, will just be a night out with my new husband.

Lookbook: Tiffiti

I have a serious collection of blazers. There are just so many ways to wear them. This white one is one of my favorites. It's a silk/satin material and is super comfortable. I bought it ages ago on a trip to LA with one of my best girlies and it's the one thing out of the major shopping we did that I have not donated or given away.

What I'm Wearing:
Blazer: ??
Top: Forever 21
Jeans: Diesel
Shoes: Report Signature
IMG_2892

I did the hair braid thing again but this time I didn't pin it back. Didn't need it to look too structured for the weekend, you know. Just let it flow into my hair.

You previously saw this outfit when I kicked J in the head :) I love the grafitti wall so thought I'd post some as my "Urban" lookbook pics. ha.

J makes fun of my cheesy grin so I try to mix things up and make funny faces. I read somewhere that the Olsen Twins say the word "prune" when they get their picture taken. Makes sense to me, how else do they get those perfect pouty lips.

I tried that technique and this is what I looked like. Hmm... need more practice.
tiffiti

About this collage; apparently J didn't think it was "urban" enough. I opened my email to find my collage had been tampered with and then renamed to "Tiffiti".

Oh the things he does. Makes me laugh.

Can you handle the cuteness?

I am straying from my usual fashion/style posts to another side of me - crafty-ish! :)

One of my girlfriends is having a baby and I decided that I wanted to find something cute to make for the baby. I haven't crocheted in a long time, like 2 years but I decided to pick up my crochet hook and went hunting for a cute pattern online.

I found many a baby hat and booties but then I came upon the world of Amigurumi, which is basically the Japanese art of crocheting cute stuffed animals. I instantly fell in love and had to try one. I had low expectations considering I wasn't that great at crocheting before but here is my first project.

Turtles!! Aren't they so cute?
I made one bigger than the other so they could be boyfriend/girlfriend.

love their little feet.

My mother in law has all these miniature furniture sets and these chairs just fit them so well.

To give you a picture of how small these guys really are here is my little Savvy getting all Dogzilla on them.

I love them so much that I can't give these away. (Sorry Jen!) hehehe, I suppose I could make a couple more to give away :)

Just look at their faces...

Adventures in Oregon Part 2

What city were we in again? Oh right...
theater

We did a little bit more walking around before we settled on a place for dinner and then headed to the hotel to check in.
night collage

Later on that night, we ventured out to find us a place for cocktails and dessert. The place we went to had great cocktails but they ran out of the dessert that I wanted. Boo.

We got back to the hotel and had to check out the outdoor deck area with the fire pits. We settled down into some chairs and then bought a bottle of wine to drink out there. Pretty soon we were the only ones left and we had no desire to leave.
fire collage
Sitting out there with my new husband, the fire, and a bottle of wine was total bliss.

The next morning we headed out to the Nob Hill area to have some delicious breakfast.
brunch
(me: asparagus and brie omelet, him: eggs benedict at Papa Haydn)

and an hour later, I made him stop and get me gelato. And an Italian Soda.
gelato
Yum!

We made it through quite a bit of Nob Hill, which was a really cute area with interesting shops and lots of delicious looking restaurants.

Our next stop was the Pearl District as I had to check out West Elm.

After picking out the perfect bed for us, we headed to our last stop.

The Rose Garden!

Portland is known as the "city of roses" so we couldn't leave without visiting one of their rose gardens.

It was such a lovely day to be in the garden. There were a lot of people but it wasn't too overcrowded. The smell of the roses is so overwhelming but in a good way.

Here are some of my favorites that we saw.
roses2

There seemed to be a billion rose bushes, all different types and all such pretty colors. I've always loved roses so it was fun for me to go there and see all the varieties.

After being out in the sun all day, we were DONE. The sun totally drains all the energy out of you doesn't it? Luckily we had enough energy to drive back home.

We had such a fabulous time on our mini getaway. I'm already planning our next one!

I'm IT!

I had no time this weekend to write a proper post so it was perfect timing that I got tagged. Vanessa at MarkessaXO (have you seen her wedding recap yet? if not, go!) tagged me for a fun game so here goes:

4 things I did today:
  • Did my hair and put on a pretty pretty headband this morning.
  • Played with my pups. They are back from the grandparents'! Drove 9 hours to pick them up this weekend.
  • Ordered Thank You cards from Shutterfly.
  • Answered my work emails (still answering them!) and wrote a presentation.
4 things on my to do list:
  • Write my posts for the week (I schedule all my posts, I rarely ever write them the day of the post. except for this one.)
  • Help J's mom update the website for her company.
  • Figure out when/where to go for our honeymoon. We have two fabulous places picked out but I need to make a decision and go with it!
  • Get my dress altered! It had fit perfectly but since I've lost a bit of weight, the dress is now a full size too big. Sad, I didn't want to alter it anymore.
4 of my guiltiest pleasures:
  • stalking all the major dept. store websites for new Louboutins and Choo's to add to my collection.
  • E! news every night at 7pm. When we get home, J just changes it to that channel. Doesn't even bother putting it on anything else.
  • Candy. I love candy. Mostly sour gummy stuff. I'll even eat candy for breakfast.
  • Photography blogs.Wedding photogs, general photogs, fashion photogs . I can look through them for hours.
4 random facts about me:
  • that mole on my cheek did not appear until 5th grade. If you look at my school pictures before then, no mole. Have no clue when exactly it appeared but it's there in my 5th grade picture.
  • I hate bananas. The smell of them makes me gag. They are my most hated food of all foods.
  • I have a young sounding voice. Especially on the phone. At my first job I had to talk on the phone a lot with people I never met in person. I finally met someone in person and the first thing she told me was that she expected me to be about 16 years old because of my voice. I was 23.
  • I grew up with a very stylish mom (still is). I learned everything from her. She's the reason I don't leave the house without makeup and my hair done. She's also got the best stash of vintage and new Chanel and LV bags. All my girlfriends in high school thought I had the coolest mom.
I tag these 4 bloggers:
Since I never have a post without a picture here is one of my favorite pair of Choo's. They rarely make it out as they are a bit too uncomfortable to wear for too long (and that's saying a lot coming from me!) But they are pretty to look at aren't they?

Adventures in Oregon

The doggies are staying with the grandparents for a few weeks so J and I took advantage of it and took off for a last minute vacation to Portland, Oregon.

We stayed at Hotel Modera in downtown. I like to stay at boutique hotels for our leisure travel because I spend so much time in the Hilton's, Westin's and W's of the world when I travel for work. Most boutique hotels are quite lovely but for the price you pay, it better be! Hotel Modera was actually a fantastic deal for the quality. The decor was beautiful, the outside courtyard with the fire pits were amazing and the people were quite friendly. We recommend to stay there if you go to Portland!

I completely forgot to take pictures of the inside, this is all I got!

And of course, this girl did not leave empty handed. (neither did the boy.)

After shopping it was time to explore the city.
We are picture taking fools!

I love going to different cities and spotting all the details that make the city unique.

Lookbook: London

I've been checking out the fall/winter collections and am dying to get so many things. I thought I'd pull out a look from last winter. Here I am on my way to a business meeting in London.

What I'm wearing:
Coat: Zara
Dress: Mango
Tights: DKNY
Shoes: Jimmy Choo
Bag: Louis Vuitton
london tower

The jacket was a last minute buy when I was in New York prior to the flying over to London, turns out it was an excellent purchase as it was a lot colder in London that week than I had expected! The dress is the same one in my Working Girl lookbook. Just goes to show how you can take one dress and wear it from summer to winter.

It's funny seeing me with that LV bag as I don't think I've carried it since that trip. I've become such a BIG bag kinda girl that I don't even bother with my smaller bags. That being said, I still love it. It really went well with that outfit.

The office we were meeting at was right next to the Tower of London. They took us out on their deck and I got some pictures of their view.
Can you imagine looking out of your office and seeing that everyday?

Just so you know, my birthday is coming up in two weeks.
And this is pretty much how I'm going to celebrate it.

John & Joseph Photography

If you have been involved in wedding planning, I'm sure you have heard of John & Joseph Photography. Their wedding photography is amazing, every picture has such great emotion and feeling to it.

but I am totally in love with their fashion photography. When I saw that they started a blog just for their fashion work, I had to add it to my google reader.

Go here to see the loveliness.

decisions decisions

So you know once you buy your dress, you pretty much stop looking? Well, that was me. Same with my shoes. I've been buying shoes like crazy but not looking for wedding shoes. And then I stumbled upon these lovelies on Lovely Morning. And I am torn.

Here are mine (the ones I wore to our courthouse ceremony as well)

Brights, Patterns and a possible DIY

I, along with many a fashion blogger, have been drooling over the fashions coming out of NY Fashion Week. My pick today is Diane Von Furstenberg. I am really getting into bright colors lately and I am loving her brights mixed with patterns. It takes a bold person to wear this look together but each of the pieces are so pretty.

The runway pics are great, but I'm loving the backstage pictures even more.

When I was little, I had these barrettes that had long ribbons attached to them in all different colors and when my mom let me wear them in my hair, I felt like the prettiest princess in the world. Those headbands that the models are wearing totally remind me of them, but like a grown up version. It's not something that you'd see everyday, but I'm loving them. I might try my hand at a little DIY and see if I can pull it off, I think my version will be a lot less frilly though.
