Happy Turkey Day!

Our first married Thanksgiving! We have always gone to my parents house for Thanksgiving so this wasn't something new, but I did actually make something which was a first! Big news for me since I'm not much of a cook.

The turkey... J loves dark meat so this turkey leg was all his.

My mom pulled out her china including these coffee cups which we all thought were amusing because nobody was planning on having coffee.

Q&A: For the Petites

Sharon asks: Being 5'1" and petite, it is so hard to find clothes that fit properly. Where do you find clothes that fit you so well for your size? Especially designer clothes? I once tried to buy a pair of designer jeans and they were waayyyyy too long. Do you get them altered everytime?

Hi Sharon! Great question. I get asked this question a lot, especially with my work clothes. I am 5'2" and with heels I am at most 5'6" but I am also short legged. I would say that 90% of pants/jeans that I buy do not fit properly so I do get them altered. Most of the time it is just the length but sometimes I do need to get them taken in at the waist as well. Remember that when you get them altered, bring your shoes that you think you would most likely wear with them. That way the seamstress can take the best measurement. For jeans, wash them first as they will shrink a bit and then get them hemmed for the best fit. Also, if you find a good seamstress, stick with her and treat her REALLY nicely!! Mine knows me so well that when J brings in his alterations, she writes MY name down on the tag! The best part is, if I ask, she will even do my alteration in one day. Such a great luxury to have considering most alteration places take a week to get them back to you!

I find that even in the Petites department of most stores, the clothes don't fit me well so I don't spend a lot of time looking in the Petites section. However, I do recommend Banana Republic as they make great fitting pants for petites. I don't shop anywhere special, I usually just buy my size and then bring it to the seamstress to get it altered.

If I don't feel like getting it altered (I can't justify the cost of alterations on cheap clothes) I just end up belting it like I did for this and this. Or hiding it underneath a cardigan or blazer. It's all about utilizing what you have and making it work!

MiShi asks: I understand that you are petite, as am I, and want to know what you feel are fashion dos and don'ts for petite women. What looks are flattering/unflattering?

Hi MiShi! This is also a great question because as much as I love some of the fashion/stylings that I see in magazines, I know that I could not pull it off so here are some thing that I like to go by...

#1: When wearing skirts and dresses, watch where it lands on your legs. If it cuts you off on the calf, that is a no-no. It has to just be short (above the knee) or long (a few inches past the knee - closer to your ankle). The in between look just does not work for girls with short legs like me. It ends up making me look even shorter and gives me bigger calves. This actually relates to the first question because I do get dresses/skirts altered to the appropriate length. This is also a big reason why I am not a fan of capri pants. I can make some exceptions but for the most part they just do not work for petite woman. And the same goes for when you wear leggings. Either pull them up by your knee or wear them down to your ankles. Half way just does not work.

#2: Wear heels as much as you can! The one advantage of being petite is that you CAN wear heels and you have small feet that makes everyone love your shoes :) We can pull off wearing short skirts with heels because it doesn't look nearly as sexy as taller ladies. But of course, don't go too short. Nobody wants to go around looking like Holly Hooker do we?

but with the heels it still works.

#3: Monochromatic tones on your bottom half. If you look through my lookbook you will see I wear a lot of black tights + black heels or black leggings + black heels or boots. By wearing all the same color on the bottom it creates the illusion of a longer line.

By wearing nude shoes, it keeps your eyes on her dress and face and elongates her legs.

#4: Concentrate on your top half. This goes along with #3 but I feel like my top half is better than my bottom half. I have a super flat butt and short legs so I try not to bring too much attention to that area. Instead I like to wear bright(er) colors on top or fun necklaces/earrings so those are the areas that people see first.

#5: Form fitting is always better than baggy but if you want to do baggy, avoid wearing too many baggy items at once. I often like wearing loose fitting cardigans but pair it with a form fitting tank or tucked in blouse. This is the perfect example of too many loose fitting items which made me look chunkier and shorter. If you think it is too baggy, tuck it in! This works for anyone.

#6: Skinny Jeans!! It took me awhile to get into skinny jeans because I thought you had to have super long legs to pull them off but actually skinny jeans give the illusion of long legs. If you have yet to try them, do it! And then come back and tell me how much you love them :) I bought my first pair a few years ago and haven't looked back. The majority of my jeans are now skinny or straight leg jeans.

#7: Embrace being Petite! The best advice I have for everyone is just being confident in yourself and the way you look. If you feel good, you will look good, no matter what you wear. It just works!

I adore that Hollywood has so many petite girls with great styles.
Another one of my favorites, Mila Kunis. Just gorgeous.

And of course the ultimate in petite, the always fashionable Olsen Twins. I live by their motto of high heels. If only I could afford all their shoes!

Lookbook: mad for plaid

Two lookbook posts in a row?! ugh. I know. Life still has not slowed down and I have no time for creativity so thought I'd just post another outfit.

I am crazy for plaid this season. I actually don't own any plaid so I've been on the lookout for cute plaid shirts. I found this perfectly ruffled plaid shirt at this small boutique in Seattle and had to buy it. The boots are one of my latest purchases from Gilt, my favorite online store. I am truly addicted to it. What would I do without my daily Gilt fix?

lookbook: winter boots

I am officially in winter mode. All my winter clothes and shoes are out and we've pulled out the down comforter for our bed. I bought these boots a few years ago and they are still one of my favorite boots for the winter. I can walk in them for hours and they never hurt my feet and they look pretty dang cool!

And um yea, these pictures are kinda silly but I had to make do when J was out for the afternoon and not able to take my picture!

I like this skirt as it is pretty versatile, I can wear it as a slim pencil skirt down to my knees or I can pull it up like I did here. The only problem is that the waist bunches when I pull it up so that's why I have that weird wrinkle around my midsection in the middle picture.

Leggings have been my favorite thing for the winter. I am always cold but I love wearing dresses and skirts so it is great when I can wear leggings with my skirts as it keeps me a bit warmer. I'm a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to leggings so I just get them all at Forever 21. I have about 12 pairs from there. haha! I don't do laundry that often so I just stockpile my staples. Oh and these ribbed cuff ones are my favorites! They are thicker than their regular leggings and the waistband is pretty comfy.

I have yet to get into the shiny leggings like Miss Lohan here and several other fashion bloggers. Not sure if I have the guts or the personality to pull them off. I am kind of into these zipper ones, but seriously who wants to pay $123 for some leggings?

Life after the wedding...

Been a busy busy bee lately. Life after the wedding has been nonstop. Here's what's been going on with me...

• My sister got engaged! AND it's going to be a destination wedding!
  
• Been trying to be a good little wifey and cook my husby some home cooked meals. Ended up buying pre-made meals from Eat Local instead. All organic, local ingredients, and so delish. They have such a great selection. If you are in Seattle area I highly recommend it! If you are hesitant because of the price, I will tell you it is worth every penny. If I bought all the ingredients and tried the same thing at home it would cost just as much (or more) and take away time that I already do not have. And it would most likely not taste as good!
  
• Working my little ass off. Two weeks away from work is not a good thing.
  
• Changed my name at the social security office and got myself a new driver's license with a pretty good photo!
  
• Putting my fat puppy on a diet as a result of our dog sitter not receiving the feeding instructions. Read the details on Who's Your Dachshund.
• Celebrating above mentioned fat puppy's fifth birthday!
• Downloading all pictures from Jamaica and sorting through all the good ones to upload to our flickr to share with friends and family. (sorry, for now I am keeping them private to friends and family)
  
• Anxiously awaiting the rest of our wedding pictures from Punam!

Punam Bean is a rockstar!

We are back from Jamaica! It was a very adventurous trip to say the least. Hurricane Paloma ended up affecting us way more than anyone expected and I had a couple of very emotional days.

I won't be doing recaps until we get our photos but our amazing photographer has already put up the blog post of our pictures! She also wrote a great summary of the trip. Through it all she was AMAZING! I can not say enough about Punam Bean. She was hands down our best decision for our wedding. She is based in New York but obviously traveled with us to Jamaica. So if you are looking for a wedding photographer, I highly recommend her!

We love pictures

I am hoping that you all aren't sick of seeing me and J's faces as I am so in love with the pictures that Kevin took of us that I had to post them here.

I have to say that Kevin is wonderfully laid back and patient which made for a great photo shoot in conjuction with the video shoot with my brother. We couldn't be happier with these pictures and are so glad that we got to capture some great shots right in our neighborhood.

I call this one our "Fierce" shot.

It was a chilly day as usual in Seattle so in some of the pictures you will see me with my little pink cape on. :)

I absolutely adore that we got some shots with our pups.
And of course, Savvy dressed up for the occasion!

Brick backgrounds are the best.

T & J in action!

As I mentioned previously, my brother made us a video of our legal ceremony and it is better than anything I could have imagined. J and I have watched it more than 10 times already and each time I still get a bit teary eyed. I love it so much! He is just getting into videography and although I may be biased, I think he is very very talented. This is his very first video! Watch it and get ready to be impressed. :)

Q&A: Favorites

Mrs. S asks: What is your absolute favorite item of clothing? AND what is your favorite pair of shoes?

my favorite item of clothing at the moment is this Rag and Bone blazer. I don’t tend to spend a lot of money on clothes, as you know that goes to my shoe and handbag addiction but when I tried on this blazer, it was like it was made for me. It is truly the best blazer I have ever owned. The details are impeccable as well as the quality and the fit. I know that it is worth the price as it will last many seasons/years to come.

My favorite pair of shoes that I wear a lot (as opposed to my favorite shoes that I hardly wear) are these Miu Miu pumps. They are nothing special but they are so comfortable and I wear them the most out of all my shoes. I have never found a more perfect pair of round toe pumps. Oh and the soles are pink so when I walk you see glimpses of pink!

meg asks: what is your favorite "cheapy" piece of clothing or accessory that you can't live without (mine's a $1 vintage necklace I got from a little shop in Akron, Ohio - it gets compliments EVERYTIME!) and what is your most extravagant item that you can't live without? (as a sahm...I don't have extravagant - yet...)

(Meg had two questions, but the other question gets a separate post!)

I love hats but I don't like to spend too much money on them and I just got this little beret from Forever 21 and I love it! In the winter I always carry a hat and gloves in my handbag so that if I'm walking outside I'm always prepared. This one has been living in my bag and I love pulling it out when I'm cold as I still look stylish and warm! I don't get too attached to my cheapy clothes so there's nothing really that I couldn't live without.

I answered the question on my most extravagant item but I don't get much use out of those items so my most extravagant item that I actually use is a Rolex watch that was a present from my mom. When my dad came to America he didn't have a lot of money and when he started his business and started making money, the watch was the first "big" present he bought for my mom. It means a lot that they gave it to me, it really shows me how far they've come since they immigrated to the US. I will treasure it forever. So although I didn't buy it, the monetery value of it is what makes it extravagant but the reason I can't live without it is immeasurable.

I don't want to take a picture of it but I wear it a lot so you can spot it in my lookbook pictures!
