celeb inspirations

My inspiration folder in my computer has been getting fuller and fuller! I've been loving so many looks lately so thought I'd share my latest celeb inspirations.

Doesn't Nicole Richie just look amazing here? Her hair and makeup is perfection and I am always a fan of black tights with black heels. The dress just goes so well with her jewelry that she is wearing (from her own line). Talk about a great way to sell your jewelry, she makes me want to buy it just by seeing this outfit alone.

I have never seen High School Musical, but I watch enough of E! news to know who Vanessa Hudgens is and I think she's adorable. I love how she's rocking the romper trend that I had mentioned a few posts ago. The flowery print and the lavender shoes make a perfect summery outfit!

I don't really know why as the whole family kind of annoys me, but I watch "Keeping up with the Kardashian's" which is how I know about the next little starlet. Adrienne Bailon is the little brother's girlfriend. I love love how she paired a classic tweed jacket with shiny leggings and hot shoes! The balenciaga bag and the chain necklace is a perfect touch.

And last is Nicole Richie (again) who is so just the cutest (pregnant) mommy. I hope I'll be just as cute when I'm toting my little ones around. I just love how casual the outfit is but not sloppy. The flowy dress with the tights and those amazing boots. I seriously want this entire outfit. And how cute is her hair tied up in a bun? I have way too much hair, my hair would never stay like that, but if I could I would do it!

Does anybody know who makes those incredible boots?

I'm a bridesmaid...

My sister is getting married this July. In the Riviera Maya, which is in Mexico. Yes, Mexico. The swine flu is all I can think about right now...

But moving past that, this is what the bridesmaids are wearing

J Crew Erica dress in tea rose

It's cute and I like it because it has pockets but, is it just me or do J Crew dresses give everyone weird hips? Every single J Crew dress I own gives me hips that I do not have, it's really kind of irritating! I am taking the dress to my tailor to get rid of the hips and shorten it. I bought the dress in petite but it's still too long.

And then we are wearing these shoes for the ceremony
(in pewter, the color in the back)

Victoria's Secret T-strap wedge

I'm typically not one for wedges. I own like 3 pairs, I much prefer heels. But, she's getting married on a pier with lots of holes that could catch little stiletto heels so during the ceremony, we are wearing wedges and then changing to heels for the reception. Well, at least I am, not sure about the other girls!

I have yet to find a pair of heels to go with the dress. If you find a perfect pair, send them my way! I'm looking for silver, not too strappy, and HIGH (at least 4 inches).

And for our fun part, we are all wearing fascinators in our hair made by the very awesome Kasia Fink veils! My sister will have the biggest flower, like this one but without the feathers and netting.

and Kasia is making the 3 bridesmaids smaller versions.
I'm so excited, we are going to look haute!

I'm going to figure out how to do my hair as I've never loved professional up-do's on me. I just end up looking weird.

Now... what to do about that dang swine flu? ugh. I need to stop watching the news and reading the newspaper! I guess I'll try to make it to her bachelorette party in Vegas first AND then worry about it! :)

p.s. I am technically the "matron of honor" but who likes that term? makes me sound so OLD!

Lookbook: Gray and Red

Hello my lovelies! I'm feeling much much better! It turns out I had a really bad sinus infection rather than the flu, so I got antibiotics from my doctor and although I am still all stuffed up at least I am out of bed! I've got lots of stuff going on this week so this might be a short posting week for me. I'm going to try to get to all of your blogs as soon as I can though, thanks all for reading and commenting!

Do you ever wake up knowing what you are going to wear that day? It doesn't happen often to me but I woke up that morning with visions of my cute little red polka dot shoes in my head and knew I had to put together an outfit to go with them.

What I'm Wearing:
Cardigan: C&C California
Tank: Aritizia
Jeans: Levi's
Shoes: Betseyville from Solestruck
I hardly ever wear red so I don't have many red pieces in my closet but I didn't want to be too matchy matchy either so I pulled out my favorite neutral color, gray. I actually love the gray on gray and the ruffles on the tank were the perfect touch. I added my favorite chain necklace from Banana Republic to cover my bare neck.
This is also the first time in all my lookbooks that I'm wearing a ponytail. I very rarely wear my hair back as I have super thick hair and it's annoying to put up and it ends up hurting my head at the end of the day. It felt like a ponytail kind of day though and I think it made the outfit a little bit more fun.

Sick as a dog

Just a note that I am going to take a little blogging break. I don't know how but I ended up getting the flu and I have been feeling awful for the past 3 days. I swear that I have never been this sick before. It is the worst! I can barely get out of bed and have little desire to be on the computer or do anything else. Although I do write all posts a week in advance, I'm not going to post those until I feel better as I feel bad that I can not get back to all of you who comment.

I would be very happy, however, if you all visited Who's Your Dachshund today for the debut of Savvy's first lookbook!

See you all when I feel back to my old self again! :)

And no post is complete without pictures, so here are a couple that my husband took last week (when I was feeling much better!) Cherry Blossoms don't last too long so you gotta make sure to take plenty of pictures of them while they are around!

P.S. to those of you who emailed me this week, thank you for writing me! I will get back to you as soon as I get better and I can manage sitting at a computer for more than 5 minutes at a time.

L.A.M.B. part 2

I have been enamoured with L.A.M.B shoes ever since I got this pair. I have been stalking a few pairs at Nordstrom, waiting for them to go on sale when on a little impromptu lunch break to Nordstrom Rack, I found these beauties!

I don't know if you can see the detail that well, but there are zipper details all over the shoe. I'm in love with the shiny gunmetal color and the platform height. I was so happy to have found these that I practically skipped all the way to the cashier. I love finding shoes at the Rack! I left the store and immediately called my husband to tell him my good shopping deal. Hot shoes? I like. but hot shoes on sale and an additional discount? I LOVE!

Lookbook: Hot Pink

When it's sunny out, Savvy will make more and more appearances in the lookbooks. We can't go outside without taking the dogs out, they love the sun!

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Amanda Uprichard
Leggings: Forever 21
Shoes: Report Signature
Bangles: J Crew
I found another Amanda Uprichard top that I love! It's very similar to the other one that I have in this lookbook, but this one has sleeves which makes me love it even more. I swear that this line is just made for me, the hot pink and the ruffles is the perfect style-ish combo. I paired it with my shiny leggings and to top it off, my sparkly sequin shoes.

I am sooo happy the sun is finally coming out! Makes my lookbook pictures much nicer, doesn't it?

Hair Tutorial!

Okay, so this isn't a true hair tutorial but it's a start! We tried taking pictures in the bathroom but the lighting is horrible and I can't stand it so we took my hair tools outside for a photoshoot. It was actually kind of funny posing with my hair tools with cars driving by.

Anyway, here are the 3 most important tools that help me style my hair.

#1: T3 Pro Dryer
If you think that expensive hair dryers don't make a difference, well, my hair will argue with you. I have used countless cheapie hair dryers that I bought from Target. They worked fine and dried my hair, but they also made my hair frizzy and not easy to style. Ever since I got this dryer, my hair has been a dream to work with. I have super thick hair and it used to take me about half an hour to fully dry my hair. This blow dryer has seriously cut down my drying time to about 15 minutes.

Because of my digital perm I have been using a diffuser to blow dry my hair, which makes a huge difference in helping define my curls. I just use a regular diffuser that I bought from my hair salon. If you don't use a diffuser yet, this is a great article for you on how to use one.

#2: T3 Pro Ever Twirl (1.25 inch)
I was super iffy about spending $90 on a curling iron. I had been using a $30 one for the longest time and it worked fine. Well, until it broke. Since I loved my hair dryer so much I decided to get the matching curling iron. Turns out it was a $90 well spent! I can totally tell how much better it curls my hair and is a lot more gentle with my hair. It's hard to explain but when I clamp my hair down, it pulls a lot less and just glides into my hair. Sounds silly but that's the only way I can describe it!

#3: Lucido-L Hair Curl Lotion
So I have to apologize because this next awesome hair product is Japanese so you all might not be able to get it but if you have access to a Asian store like Uwajimaya, they sell it.

So, the first time I ever thought about getting a digital perm was after a trip to Japan last year where I bought a TON of fashion magazines and seeing all the girls with fabulous curly hair, I had look into HOW they all had such fabulous hair. I then discovered the digital perm, which then also led me to this awesome curling spray. I am not a huge hair spray person because I hate when hair gets crispy, and this curling lotion keeps my hair super soft but also keeps the curls. It is the best hair product ever. If you can get your hands on it, I suggest you do!

My process for my hair, right out of the shower:
  • Put hair cream in wet hair (I also use the Lucido brand for this)
  • Blow dry hair
  • Spray hair with curling lotion
  • Curl hair
  • Brush through with fingers
  • Tease roots if needed
Sometimes when I want a more piecey curl look (like in this look), I use the Mop-C curl defining cream instead of the Lucido hair cream. For extra touch, I use Bed Head Head Rush. It smells yummy and it makes my hair nice and shiny. I don't use it daily though, I usually forget!

It's a long process but it's worth it (at least to me). I don't mind spending extra time in the morning to do my hair. Doing my hair and makeup is one of those things that relax me and that I enjoy doing. I can't imagine my daily routine without it.

Questions? Let me know in the comments or email me. I'll answer them in the next hair tutorial post.

Lookbook: Cherry Blossoms

Our street is blooming with so many cherry blossom trees. It is so beautiful looking down our street.
Cherry Blossoms
Cherry Blossoms

I asked J to capture the cherry blossoms in the background for this lookbook. After he took this picture he says "look how little you look!" because he usually takes the pictures closer up. So then I wonder if you all think I'm bigger than I really am since I never stand next to anything? hehe.

So here I am in the view you are used to seeing...

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Quicksilver
Leggings: Forever 21
Belt: Forever 21
Shoes: L.A.M.B

I was lazy and kinda just copied my look from the last time I wore these shoes. But really, you can't go wrong with a dress, a belt and leggings. I just realized I'm wearing two purple outfits in this week's lookbook posts. I guess I was right when I told you I'm really loving purple this season!

After seeing so many fashion bloggers rock their shiny leggings, I had to join in and get some for myself. And just like many of them, I have been converted! I love shiny leggings! I wanted to get the American Apparel Disco Pant, but was afraid I would hate the look and would rather not invest $90 in them. Instead, I ordered two pairs from Forever 21 for $9 each. WAY better! (Unfortanetly, I don't see them on the website anymore so can't show you which ones I bought) If you haven't gotten into shiny leggings yet, I say try them out! You might love them too.

p.s. smile! It's SPRING!

Lots of Questions!

I have been tagged by God made me Funky for a questionnaire.

1. respond and rework: answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own. (I must confess I didn't do this. I liked the questions just fine!)
2. tag eight other un-tagged people

What is your current obsession?
Gray nail polish. Currently wearing OPI "Sheer Your Toys"

My dark gray option is OPI "You Don't Know Jacques"

What are you wearing today:
striped cardi, gray ruffle tank, skinny jeans and Louboutins
(too rainy today so no lookbook picture. You are going to have to imagine it) :)

Do you nap a lot?
I used to but have no time now. I do love naps though.

Why is today special?
My husband and I had a fun day getting more stuff to decorate our place! Mainly frames so we can put up the prints and photographs we recently ordered.

What would you like to learn to do?
Worry less and live for the moment.

What's for dinner today?
I made a beef pot roast in the slow cooker. I modified a recipe from this book. If you are like me and have no time to make stuff from scratch, I highly recommend the Semi-Homemade Cooking books by Sandra Lee! Everything I have made from her books has been delicious, and it's fast! Oh and then I made french green beans with roasted almonds because you always need some kind of vegetables for dinner.

What's the last thing you bought?
See above... frames! Clothing wise, this Eryn Brinie blazer in white.

What are you listening to right now?
My husband watching TV

What is your favorite weather?
Sunny but not humid

What are your essentials when traveling?
Sonicare, Clarisonic, makeup, sleeping mask, water

What's your style?
Classy, girly, always in heels

What is your most challenging goal right now?
Figuring out the direction with our photography/design business. If I can handle my job while trying to grow this business at the same time.

What do you think about the person who tagged you?
She is such a sweetheart!

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?
London, UK
and I want it to be totally modern like this place.

via MadeByGirl

Favorite vacation spot?
Nice, France

Name the things you cannot live without?
My husband, my dogs, my family.
Material things - iPhone, Clarisonic, favorite pair of Louboutins, Louis Vuitton Neverfull

How was your childhood?
It was the best childhood one could ever ask for.

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
These YSL's... can't find them anywhere in my size!

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Paris, France

What would you like to get rid of?
Our recycling bin is crazy full right now. We need to take it to the recycling room. =)

Which language do you want to learn?
Japanese so I can teach our kids both Japanese and Taiwanese.
(my husband is Japanese but does not speak it. I speak Taiwanese fluently.)

Which countries have you visited?
A lot. I have many many pages of stamps in my passport!
I am lucky to have parents that love to travel and took us all around the world when we were kids.
Now, I have a job that allows me to travel internationally.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Lookbook: Silk and Lace

I am loving the color purple this season. I've been buying and wearing lots of purple tones and this little silk and lace top is the perfect color.

What I'm Wearing:
Cardigan: J. Crew
Top: Forever 21
Jeans: Levis
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

People always ask me how I manage to find such good pieces at Forever 21. It's not just a matter of picking out good pieces but how you wear it as well. When buying cheap pieces, it's all about the fit and the fabric. Poor fit will definitely make it look cheap. When I buy from forever 21, I always buy online because I can't stand shopping at the actual store so I am pretty selective about what I buy (I never return anything). I have found that their silk tops is one of their more well made items so I always feel ok when I buy them.

purple LB

The J. Crew cardigan is adorable, it's got a little ruffle trim and little rhinestone buttons but it's wool so it's so itchy! I usually wear it with long sleeves so I don't itch all day (the purple top is sleeveless) but I dealt with it since it looked cute with the top.

I bought this pewter belt at Nordstrom recently (and got it in gold as well) and it's just the perfect color to accent outfits. Funny story is I bought the belt not looking at the size and when I tried it on at home it was WAY too big. So I brought it back a few weeks later to exchange, but couldn't find it so asked the sales associate if they had any more of them left in a small. She went back and found it and said it was the last one AND it was on sale. Score! Guess it pays to be absent minded and not check sizes! hehe.

Walk This Way

I know that this is my fashion/style blog and I spend the majority of my time writing about the style-ish aspects of my life but obviously there is way more to me than style so I thought I'd get a little personal. A big part of my life that I don't write about much here (but I do write about it here) is my dogs.

Walks with our dogs are always the best part of my day. Not only do we get to see them wag their happy little tails, but it is always a good time to chat with my husband with no distractions of the TV, internet or phone. Plus, walking outside is something that I never did before we had dogs, but I now know how beneficial it is to just get out, stretch your legs and get some fresh air. During the summer we can walk for more than an hour and explore so many areas that we wouldn't normally go to if we were in our car.

I love these pictures that my husband took on one of our recent walks. There's nothing special about them but they really show what these walks are like. Just simple and happy.
a beautiful day for a walka beautiful day for a walka beautiful day for a walk

He likes to catch funny pictures of me as I'm walking. Most of the time I try to make weird faces at him but sometimes I'm nice and smile for him. I think he prefers to catch me with a weird face though so he can laugh later on!
a beautiful day for a walk

Most of the time, we walk during the day but sometimes we get too busy and can't walk them until later in the evening. I love the times we walk them at dusk as it is one of those times of days that just goes by so fast so when we walk the dogs, we really get to enjoy seeing the skies change from blue, to dark blue, to black.

People always ask me when we're gonna move out of the city and get a house but when this is the view that we get to see every day, there is no rush. You can't get anything like this in the suburbs! Plus, who wants a house when you get to live in a cool modern loft! :)

Hope this inspires you to take some time out of your day to just enjoy your surroundings. Have a fun and relaxing weekend!

Lookbook: rag & bone and ruffles

I am such a girly girl. Anything with ruffles and pink, I have to have it. This little blouse had my name written all over it!

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Amanda Uprichard
Cardigan: rag & bone
Jeans: rag & bone
Shoes: Stuart Weitzman

Aren't the ruffles just so pretty?

I love the little jewels and the bows on these shoes.

Yup, I'd have to say a pretty girly girl outfit, even if I am wearing jeans!

I hadn't heard of Amanda Uprichard, it was just one of those tops that I saw while shopping at Nordstrom's Savvy section. (BTW, did you know I named my dog Savvy because of that department? That's how much I love it.) But I looked up her line and it is such cute stuff! Totally loving these pieces.

Pink Mascara

Revolve Clothing

Totally adorable right? I think that cream ruffled blouse is my next purchase...
