Lookbook: Ruffles and Stripes

Happy Monday! Hope everyone got to enjoy their weekends. Mine was busy but a lot of fun. We (my hubs and I) stopped by the Boutique Culture Warehouse Sale and I got to meet my twitter/blogging friends @boutiqueculture, @alixrose, @agentnoir, @jessestrada, and the gorgeous designer @jesicamilton who I bought the most adorable skirt from. Oh and I also got to meet @vuesociety at the Product Runway show! If you are on twitter make sure to follow all of them, they are all such fabulous ladies!

Anyway, onto Monday Lookbook! I knew I liked ruffles but didn't really realize it until I was just looking through my past lookbooks and noticed how many ruffle-y shirts I own. I also really love short sleeve button down blouses but those, I don't own as many of.

What I'm Wearing:

I got this shirt a few years ago and haven't worn it much, but couldn't part with it because I loved the ruffles. I just bought these cute striped shorts and when I went to pair it with a top I decided that the ruffles would do!

I love the subtle stripes and the color of these shorts as well as the cute tabs on the sides. Shorts are the one thing that I will miss when fall comes as I'm not one that transitions to fall wearing shorts. I just can't do the tights under shorts thing. I think it's adorable on others but just doesn't work for me.

And the perfect touch were my blue Dior pumps! I love how these pumps go with so many of my outfits. It's a blue that's kinda unexpected but works so well with all sorts of looks.

Reading List

I don't tend to buy a lot of fashion or style books. Mainly because I get a lot of my style tips from magazines and blogs and don't feel like I need a book to really tell me how to style myself. However, I recently got these two that I had to share as I thought that they were great books.

I don't think either of these books need an introduction. I'm sure everyone who reads my blogs knows The Sartorialist and Nina Garcia.

The Little Black Book of Style

I held off on buying her books for awhile but after looking through it at Barnes and Noble one day, I decided to bring it home with me. I love that each chapter covers a very basic topic that she would expand on. Her tips all pretty much align with my own style philosophy so I didn't learn anything new but I still loved reading through it. It was really easy to read, I read it in like 10 minutes.

The neat touch was all the illustrations by Ruben Toldeo sprinkled throughout the book.

I love that she starts out with "You can never have enough high heels"

I liked this book a lot just for how well it was written (easy to read) and the illustrations. I think I might get her other books just to have the collection.

The Sartorialist

The Sartorialist book is a compilation of the pictures he's taken for his blog with only just a little bit of writing. The book is really thick which I love, so many pages of inspiration!

If you love his blog, you have to get this book! Plus I love that it's only $20 (on Barnes & Noble). Most books with a ton of images like this cost a lot more.

Lula Magazine

I've had this magazine for awhile but wanted to mention it too. I had never heard of it until I was in a boutique and saw it on their table and flipped through it. This magazine is so full of beautiful images that I had to go and buy it myself. It's not only the images, but the styling and even the writing that's gorgeous. It's not just a flimsy magazine either, the paper they use is really thick, it's more like a fashion book than a magazine.

I believe it's a UK magazine, I got my issue at Barnes & Noble (the store, not online) and it was about $15.

Here's our collection of coffee table books currently on our table. All the sneaker ones are obviously my husband's. :) The one that's turned around where you can't see the book title is a sneaker book as well.

Lookbook: ribbons and pearls

I wore this on one of those super hot days that we had a few weeks ago. It was about 98 degrees and I was not happy about having any of my hair even touching my face or my neck hence the fully pulled back ponytail. I rarely wear my hair like this but with the heat and no air conditioning there was no way I could wear my hair down as I have super thick hair and I swear it just keeps in all the heat.

I was so undecided about this dress because I liked the ruffles but I felt it ended kind of in an awkward place, do you know what I mean? I would've liked it if it had a few extra ruffles or was just ruffles all the way down. And then I realized I bought it in the wrong size after I put it on and took the tags off but oh well, I wore it anyway.

It needed a little something so I added my chain/ribbon necklace along with a pearl necklace I just bought from the J Crew outlet. If you have a J Crew outlet near you, I highly reccommend going there and stocking up on their jewelry! They have all the last season stuff which is still gorgeous, marked down and then they had an addtional 20% off! I got a few necklaces to add to my necklace obsession.

it's the weekend!

Who's excited it's almost the weekend? Me for sure! J and I will be spending our Saturday shooting a super fabulous wedding for the best stylist in Seattle, Darcy of Styled Seattle. We are so excited and can not wait for the amazing-ness that is to come for this wedding.

Happy Blogiversary!

I am Style-ish is 1!

Okay, so if you are a long time reader or have seen my archives you might be wondering why this is only 1 year even though I have been writing for way longer. The start of this blog was not about fashion at all, it was intended to keep my friends and family informed of my wedding planning which then turned into a destination wedding blog and then from this post I decided to change things up and add lookbooks and this post is where "I am Style-ish" became official!

Ever since this blog became "I am Style-ish" I have enjoyed every second of it. Writing about fashion, style, connecting with other bloggers and readers, forming new friendships and even getting to meet a few of you along the way. All in all it has been an amazing year! This blog wouldn't be anything without all of you so I wanted to do a giveaway to thank you for all your support and friendship!

Lookbook: Georgetown

The other day my husband and I went to the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle to have lunch at Smarty Pants (best sandwiches ever.) and noticed the interesting details and buildings in the area. We couldn't resist a little photoshoot while we were there so I thought I'd post a few pictures for a little change from my typical lookbooks. As much as I love being a photographer and feel that I am fairly good at directing my subjects, I am not too good on the other side of the camera as my poses and facial expressions are anything but natural. So please excuse the model, but at least the photographer did a great job! I am certainly no Rumi of Fashion Toast. This is why I have to stick to my usual hand on hip, big cheesy grin lookbooks! :)

I loaded up on the accessories much more than I usually do but I just wanted to have fun with the outfit. I probably could've taken off at least one accessory but some days I like to just pile it on. I tend to wear a lot more classic accessories, like a diamond pendant, pearl necklace, my classic Rolex but lately I've been buying lots of statement jewelry and have been trying to incorporate them into my outfits. I just bought this Nixon watch on a whim while I was out shopping one day and hadn't worn it yet. That pop of pink is just so shocking and unexpected, so I can't wear it with everything but nice to have that pop of color once in awhile. You can't really see the bag but I must mention that the Jet Setter Jr. is one of my favorite handbags ever. I have it in this silver and black, it holds so much stuff and is just a great looking bag! The leather is also buttery soft.

I will say this again and again but I love these shoes. They are so different from my typical shoe style and surprisingly quite comfortable! Gwen Stefani sure knows how to make some hot shoes! (although I'm sure she's not the one actually designing the shoe, so whoever is the designer, you are awesome! :)

Next stop, San Francisco!

I'm a traveler. I just love it and can't get enough of it. I attribute it to my parents who love traveling as well and took me and my siblings to some of the most amazing places in the world all before I turned 18. I have an incredible amount of stamps in my passport and I have yet to change my name on my passport even though I have changed it everywhere else because it makes me too sad to give up my old passport and start with a new one with no stamps in it. Silly, I know, but I love how old my passport is and my silly picture that everyone exclaims that I look so young. I think I will only replace it when it expires which unfortunately is coming up next year.

This year, all of our trips have been pretty close together and had the fortune of going to a lot of sunny, tropical locales. We started with our trip to Cabo in March, in May we were lucky enough to shoot a beautiful wedding in Jamaica and then we were off for my sister's wedding in the Riviera Maya in July.

We had nothing planned for August and when I don't have a trip planned, in the back of my head I'm always thinking, where should we go next? I don't actually plan our trips nor do I consult my husband, I always just have this one day where I think "Let me look at airfares" with no intention of buying and really not even knowing where I want to go but then I just end up booking it on the spot and then let him know. I also attribute that to my parents as I remember being in school and then the next day my parents would say "start packing we're going to on a cruise to the Carribean!" My reaction was always "um what?" and then "oh yay! Vacation!" They would do that sort of thing all the time. I have to say that this little spontaneous side of me is so unlike the rest of my life. I plan everything to the T. I have multiple calendars and to do lists and check everything off. With travel it's like my little escape from my usual detailed "plan everything out" self which is just something that I need and is something that my husband happily indulges me in.

So where am I getting at? Oh yes! Last week, I was at work and decided to click on over to check flight prices, because I'm getting antsy to travel again and there it was, $98 roundtrip flight to San Francisco! It was done and purchased in a matter of minutes. Then a happy dance and an Instant Message to J telling him that we were going to San Francisco in September and then I booked the hotel. J and I love San Francisco, it is actually one of the very first trips we took together when we started dating. My sister lived in San Francisco for awhile and we got to stay with her and explore the city. I've been back multiple times since then but that first trip we went when we were still in college and traveling with your boyfriend was a huge deal it was such a good trip and I have great memories from it.

I get emails from lovely readers all the time letting me know that if I'm ever in their city they would love to meet up so I thought I'd put it out there and let you all know that I am coming and would love to meet up with any of my readers from the Bay Area! Also, because we are picture taking fanatics, we decided to offer photo sessions while we are down there and take advantage of shooting in the pretty city. Lookbook: Rolando Boucle

If you are friends with me on Facebook you might have seen my status update about my newly purchased Louboutins and yes I know I just bought the Alti's but I could not resist these babies either. A girl can never have to many Loubies in her life right?

These are the Rolando Boucle and I think quite possibly the cutest pair of mary janes I have ever owned. I want to wear these with everything! I ordered these from Barney's and had a tense few days waiting for them to ship and arrive at my place. I was so afraid that the size wouldn't be right. Even though I am typically a 5 in most shoes, Louboutins are infamous for their weird sizing. I ordered a size 5 and crossed my fingers that they would fit. When they arrived, I slipped them on and YAY!! they fit perfectly! phew! I didn't think that I could return them even if they were too small, they are just too pretty.

I wanted to wear something cute and girly with the shoes but managed to just wear the most wrinkly shirt ever! oops! I'm not so great at ironing, in fact it is probably one of my least favorite things to do. I have discovered Downy Wrinkle Release which is like magic! Just spray it on, tug out the wrinkles and voila! no more wrinkles. Too bad I didn't notice it that day and went through the entire day with a wrinkled shirt. Oh well, at least I had cute shoes to make up for it.

Chip Free Nail Polish

Last week when I mentioned in my 10 things post about my nail routine, a lot of you were interested in it so had to make sure to get this post up! I totally understand the importance of a long lasting manicure as it is a pain in the butt to always be painting your nails.

I have pretty weak nails, like they are soft and bendy. I tend to think that my weak nails also contribute to how much my nails chip. Before I started this routine my nails would last maybe two days tops and then I'd have to deal with either having chipped nails or make time every few days to touch up or paint again.

So here is my routine that I discovered that has helped me have chip-free nails for at least a week.

The potions

1. Seche Soft Cuticle Softener Therapy, 2. OPI Natural Nail Strengthener, 3. OPI ChipSkip, 4. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

After trimming my nails and filing them here are my steps:

1. Apply the Seche Soft Cuticle Softener Therapy on all nails. Rub it all over your cuticles and nails and then push back cuticles with an orange stick.
2. I use the OPI Natural Nail Strengthener as a base coat and wait a minute for it to dry.
3. Next is the OPI ChipSkip over the entire nails
4. Apply two coats of nail polish. Let each coat dry for at least a few minutes before applying another coat.
5. Make sure to let you nails dry a bit and then apply Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. This stuff does really dry fast and it creates an extra layer over your nails to protect it.
   
6. You're done!
   

I mainly use OPI nail polish which works wonderfully with this routine. I also use a lot of Zoya polish and this works just not as great, sometimes it will last the full week, sometimes it will chip after 3 days. The great thing about this routine though is that when it does chip, it's just a small tiny chip and never big chunks that are noticeable.

I love pink nail polish and am always buying different shades. I usually switch between pinks and purples but always seems to end up buying more and more pinks. Here are a my favorite pinks:

I buy a lot of my nail polish from 88 Beauty Supply or Head2Toe Beauty Store because the prices are insanely cheap! The shipping is kinda pricey but I figure you are saving a lot when you buy a lot of nail polish. All of my Zoya nail polish is from their website, Art of Beauty.

sidenote: I've been a bit MIA on the internets lately. I haven't been able to comment on all my favorite blogs or even interact on twitter which is something I love to do. My facebook updates are pretty non-existent but if you leave a comment on there I always try to reply back. Just so you know it's only because I am in my first full-blown busy wedding month as we are booked for weddings, engagements, or day after sessions for the next 5 weeks AND we are coming to fiscal year end at my full time job so I'm a bit in over my head. But no worries, I am the queen of organization and time management so will make some time to visit your blogs, facebook and twitter with you all when I can! I hope that you forgive me for being so late in my visits and responses. I am going to cut down my posts to about 3-4 a week until my crazy schedule dies down. Currently loving: Transitioning to fall

I'm already starting to think about transitioning to fall so here are the things I'm planning for my fall wardrobe.

Pairing black blazers with summery patterned dresses and black tights like this outfit from Thread Social.

Fall shoes, especially these gray slouchy boots by Stella McCartney and perfect black booties by Christian Louboutin. Both at Net-a-Porter.

For a more affordable option, I found these adorable gray booties from Report and just ordered them. I'll let you know how they turn out!
