The Style-ish Home: Easy DIY

I'm not a huge DIY-er.  I like to look at projects online and say "ooh I want to do that!" but I hardly ever do, mainly because I just don't have the time.  I'm usually more of a I'd rather pay than to make it on my own.  But there are some things that I'm cheap about and pillows is one of those.  Why are pretty pillows so dang expensive?  I usually just keep a lookout for pretty fabrics and make my own.  I mean, sewing a pillow case takes absolutely no skill so I'm pretty comfortable taking that task on.  Hubs and I have been wanting new pillows for the couch so we found this pretty blue fabric at Ikea and thought that I'd just turn them into regular pillows.  But then, one night I stumbled onto this fabulous pillow DIY and the instructions looked easy enough so decided I had to try it.  I got the felt from Jo-Ann's (the one from the bolt, not the crafty kind) and also bought a dark blue cotton to use for the back of the pillow. 

And voila!  My version of the DIY and I'm pretty happy about it.  I did it all in one night and it took me a few hours to make the both the pilowcases (and to be honest, I drank a glass or two of wine while I did it and it still came out fine. LOL)

I love the petals! The sewing of the petals takes the longest but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty fast.

And to make it a bit more fancy, I made the back panel a navy blue, I like the contrast of the pattern with the solid.  The only thing that I changed from the instructions was that I just closed up the pillow with a hand sewn stitch as we aren't leaving these out for the dogs to get dirty so we don't need to worry about removing these to wash.
