Lookbook: Sir Mix-a-lot

You remember the striped top that I cut to make into a cardigan?  Well this is the same sweater but in black.  Isn’t it funny how sometimes the color of the exact same item can make it so much harder to wear?  The white one just never looked right until I made it into a cardigan but the black one is just perfect as is.  I love the pattern of this dress but it’s a sleeveless dress and I didn’t feel like just throwing a cardigan over it so decided to wear it as a skirt instead.  I think the mix of the patterns works really well together, in fact stripes and florals are my favorite patterns to mix.  As long as you stay in the same color scheme, the pattern mixing will work.

What I’m Wearing
Sweater: Uniqlo
Dress worn as a skirt: Forever 21
Tights: DKNY
Belt: J Crew
Shoes: Christian Louboutin “Rolando Boucle

Did you guys have a good weekend?  Mine totally flew by!  It was my husband’s birthday last week so we did some celebrating and I baked him a cake!  It was my very first cake and it turned out alright.  I think finding a good recipe (or a recipe to suit your taste) is the hardest part.  If you are wondering I made this cake from Pioneer Woman.  I would’ve liked the coffee flavor to be more intense or maybe I just like coffee a lot more than other people!  Hubs recently bought me a KitchenAid stand mixer after I had a baking party with a friend and fell in love with hers (see below).  I was insanely jealous of hers so I had to get one!   I’ve been on a baking kick ever since I decided that the only sugar I was going to put in my body had to be made by myself – meaning no Cupcake Royale, no Simply Desserts, no Top Pot Doughnuts, no pastries while getting our morning coffee at Espresso Vivace, no Old School Frozen Custard, no D’Ambrosio Gelato… <—- if you need dessert/sweets recommendations in Seattle, those are my favorite!  I hardly ever drink pop so I don’t have to worry about that but I did have to cut out candy which I LOVE, especially the sour gummy kind.  I love the bakeries around here too much and the ease of getting the yumminess into my belly was making my belly much too big.  So now that I have to put the effort into making my treats, I’m a lot better at controlling what goes into my belly!  And even though I’m making a batch of treats, I don’t feel the need to eat all of them.  I just eat one or two and then I’m satisfied and the rest goes to friends or family.  I can say that I could pretty easily give up carbs or meat if I had to, but sugar – NEVER! 🙂  That’s why I had to find a better way to control my sugar intake.  How about you?  Could you give up sugar if you had to?  Or what could you not give up?

We made these tea cookies and they turned out pretty good!

Really similar right?  Only $44 and 2% cashback from ebates!

Forever 21 has some great inexpensive options as well.  Like this one is super cute with the buttons on the shoulder or this one that’s a bit baggier and would look great with skinny jeans or leggings. And both are under $16!

Whenever I do the sweater over the dress thing I like to make sure that the top of the dress is fairly plain, no ruffles or embellishments and that the skirt part is a bit more on the poofy side.  This one would be great for that as well as it being cute on its own!  Or if you don’t want to go with floral, this striped dress is really cute too!
OMG have you seen the Super Platforms?  Crazy!  I don’t even know if I can go that high.  Here’s a shorter heel Louboutin mary jane.  Or you could go for these for a much better price!  If you want to see a better view of my shoes you can also see them on my shoe collection vlog!

Oh my gosh, I'm in total love with this outfit. This mix of pattern is simply PERFECT and you are so incredibly adorable. I love this.

I've given up sweets before when I was on my weight-loss program, but now that I'm not weighing in every week and being held accountable to people, I probably wouldn't!

Great print mixing Tiffany! 😉 I definitely enjoy mixing prints and sometimes I push it to the limit.. hee hee.

Isn't the Kitchenaid standing mixer the best thing ever! My hubby got me the turquoise (Martha Steweart) one a couple Christmas' ago. And I love it. I haven't really done too much baking lately, but I'm excited to try making some pasta.. first I need to get the pasta attachment!

I hope you're doing well.. Big kiss to Savvy from Pooma. 🙂

First off, I love that shirt!
Second, if I really had to I could give up sugar, but my family has always been big on bread, and baking it ourselves and therefore I find it funny to have a meal without bread.
I guess that is what I could never give up. (store bought though I could easily live without)
Glad you guys had a great birthday with great cake (also bring on the coffeee!)

I love baking! Its so fun and relaxing. My problem, however, is that I wouldn't mind eating the entire thing. We always have goodies around in my house. Regular chocolate chip cookies, chocolate mint chip cookies, sour cream coffee cake, are all on my counter right now.

You look super cute in your outfit 🙂 The cookies look adorable as well! I just went to your older post about how u made your sweater into a cardigan! I've never thought about it, but maybe I'll do the same thing with the sweaters that I don't wear often and see how that turns out! You love stripes don't you? haha, I love them too! They always look so classy 🙂

Loving this look Tiffany! Whatever you're doing – it's working cuz you look amazing! I just unpacked my stand-mixer last week after the move. It's been sitting there un-opened since our wedding. I can't wait to try it out and I love the sugar rule of not eating it unless you make it yourself. Often times, I find I'll barely eat anything I bake myself just cuz I know how much sugar went into it.
I tried quitting sugar once when I was a Coca-Cola-holic and I had terrible withdrawls. I can't cut out fruit – that's what kills me.

@DiamondsandTulle I'm the same with you but I kinda cut the sugar or butter or replace with applesauce or use whole wheat flour so I know that I've made a "healthier" version of what I baked! I love having control of my own ingredients, it's the best part about cooking and baking is making healthier substitutions.
