Happy Monday everyone!   Let’s switch it up today and instead of talking about my outfit you get to hear me talk (errr… read) about just some random stuff that is going on! 🙂

  • I just realized that it’s been just over a year of quitting my corporate job and becoming a full time consultant/owning my own businesses.  This means over a year of not having a regular schedule of going into the office from 8am – 5pm (which I had done since the beginning of my career) and I LOVE it.  My schedule changes every day and I love having the freedom of working whenever I want instead of the restricted schedule with somebody always looking over my shoulder.  I also love that it gives me the freedom to work on my side business (and this blog) as well.  I’ve learned a lot this past year and one thing I know, I will never go back to a regular corporate job again.  If you are at that stage of wanting to leave and starting your own business or even go into the ever unstable (but super rewarding!) job of consulting, here are my words of encouragement: DO IT and don’t look back!  This was one of the scariest but best decisions I’ve ever made in my life and I’ve never been happier.
  • I have too many ideas and too little time.  I’m antsy to start another business.  One of our business ideas that we worked on for all of last year just didn’t pan out and we finally decided to scrap it.  But have no fear, I always have new business ideas and am onto the next project already.  🙂
  • We have officially decided to take a hiatus from wedding photography.  My interests in the new business and also my full time job (my new role which is now less focused on consulting and now on running/managing the business) have led me to realize that photography just doesn’t fit into the picture right now.  We’ve loved our photography business and the relative success of it but it’s just not fitting into our life goals right now.  We are fully booked for the rest of the year and are no longer accepting 2012 weddings. I am so grateful for all the experiences that we’ve had through the wedding photography business and the amazing clients-turned-friends that we’ve made.  It was a fabulous time in our lives and I’m so happy that we were able to do it and experience it all.  (And don’t worry, Hubs and I’ll will still be taking pictures, as it’s a passion we enjoy and we want to get back into photography for us and not for clients.)
  • On that note, I’m still getting a ton of inquiries from my awesome readers who are getting married (CONGRATS!!) and want to see if we are available.  Since we are no longer taking any more weddings I highly recommend two very talented ladies and dear friends of mine, Yvonne Wong who is based in Seattle (and available for travel) and Nina of Love and Lemonade who is based in Los Angeles.  You will be in very good hands with either one of them!

shopLB_heart

Mine’s a little bit cropped which I like because it fits my body a bit more proportionally. This
Ben Sherman cropped blazer would be good to help elongate the torso and it’s only $45! If you’re still on the hunt for a striped blazer, this Nanette Lepore blazer is so cute!

Ann Taylor Women’s Desert Sky Cascade Dot Print Top
Get 40% off your order at Ann Taylor! (Code SPRING40)
I’m not typically an orange girl, this may be the only thing in my closet that’s orange but I couldn’t resist the polka dots and the ruffles! This little floral tank from Forever 21 is such a great summery top.  And this polka dot tank is adorable and would be great underneath a blazer. And also, love the pop of color from the florals of this tank.

I got these at the last sale at Rag & Bone for an amazing price.  I got them in black and a dark hunter green and they are really well fitting.  Except corduroy doesn’t stretch much so don’t try to eat a big meal with these on because you’ll be feeling it! 🙂 I love Vince pants as well and these Vince Corduroy Pants are 70% off but only limited sizes. A really great deal if they are your size!

These nude Simple 100 pumps are nearly impossible to find and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were sold out by the time I put this post up so if this link doesn’t lead you to them, try Simple 70 pumps or the nude patent leather Bianca pumps (love these as well!) If the Louboutins are out of your price range, try these Tahari pumps for under $100. Also for those you daring ladies, did you see these spike pumps? EEK! Totally awesome if you can pull it off!

Hot Balenciaga purse! Mine is beige and was a recent splurge. How many years did you spend at the corporate job before starting your own business? This is also the path I am leaning towards, but of course it is a scary decision and I think I still have a few more years to "learn" from corporate America before I'm ready to take the plunge.

First of all, gorgeous outfit! Classy and the pop of color is great!

Secondly, good for you! It's so inspiring to hear. I'm a chicken and don't think I could even quit and actually do what I want, because money is always worrisome. You're very lucky and it's nice to hear that you're living life to its fullest!

Hey – just delurking to say hi and want to say well done on yet another gorgeous outfit. I am here almost on a daily basis for your lookbooks, I really enjoy them. There are a few fashion bloggers I follow, and yours is quite special because unlike alot of the random ones out there, (who try too hard and try to be fashion-forward = fuggly), yours look very well put together and is just pretty to look at. And your style very unique to you as a person and body shape. Very fitting.

Good luck with your new adventures. I am sure whatever you are doing will be great since you put so much heart into doing everything. Please dont give up the photography because your personality lives through it too and i enjoy those as well!

And also – love all your high end purchases. I can't afford them but you know what, it feels just as good looking at them so thanks so much for opening your wardrobe (and heart) and sharing with me. xx

I too, hope for a successful career path that can help me transition to self-employment. I think I should be able to do something like that very soon.

Great outfit as usual. I am a student but work right now and I could never imagine having a corporate office job. It just seems so constricting to me but I know it works for tons of people. Congrats on doing what you want and not being afraid to try new things ! I hope to aspire to something along those lines and being able to work for myself !!

@A Fine Balance For me, it did take a long time to make the decision. I always knew I wanted to do something on my own but it took about 6 months of being so miserable at my last job that I knew I had to get out and make the change.

    Thank you! <3

@B It took about 5 years being in the industry that I now consult in to jump out on my own. I did get lucky by having really great mentors that helped me out when I left the company though so it was nice to have their support when I went out on my own.

@ChristinaThanks Christina! Defintely a hard decision but was worth it in the end.

@Twenty.Something Money was always a factor but it did help that we had a good amount of savings in case something happened. That buffer definitely helped make my decision a little less harder and luckily I was able to find clients soon after I left so I didn't have to rely on it too much. It's still nice to know that it's still there in case something happens though.

@Elaine A (TOBeautyReviews) Of course! Thanks for reading!

@Tarana It's funny, I've had this top for awhile now and I don't wear it often but when I do, I end up loving it! Hope to see it on you soon! 🙂

@Lily The office job worked for me for awhile and I actually truly enjoyed it but then I just realized a lot about myself as I climbed the corporate ladder and stopped enjoying it so I knew I had to get out. Working for yourself is still so much hard work but so much more rewarding!

@Anonymous I feel for ya. I think people don't understand how hard it is to be a wedding photographer. Everyone thinks it's fun and games but we all know that it's so much more than that. I hope that you'll be able to pursue something that you are more interested in!

    And thanks for your support!

@kileen Thanks Kileen! It's so nice to be able to start a business with your significant other. Hubs and I get to spend a lot of time together planning our next venture or working on our current projects and I truly love that time spent with him. I can't wait to hear what you'll be doing! 🙂

    @Stephanie Thanks Stephanie!

@alison*elle Enjoy the corporate world as much as you can. I can't say too many bad things about it because I really did enjoy it a lot for a long time. Good luck to your boyfriend!

@Richelle to tell you the truth, I don't love it. It's a pretty bag but a pain to carry! Don't get one, stick to the LV's or the Chanel bags! Much better investment.

@JENNY thanks Jenny! I know as an entrepreneur yourself you can relate!

@katou Of course and thank you for listening 🙂

@Make Mommy Chic it's so hard to imagine leaving the job that you rely on so much for finance and stability reasons but I'll tell you the last day when I left the building of my last job, I felt so amazingly FREE even though I didn't have a job or anything lined up, I was SO happy that day that I knew it was the right decision for me.

@Uyen C. Thank you! It's so true, if you are truly motivated and your passion is there, you will always make it work.

    @nancyThank you Nancy!

@cinzee ooh, I like the town bag! I wonder if it's more comfortable to carry for you than my city bag? I don't carry this bag much because it hurts my arm!

So funny about the orange but so true. I never even glance at the orange clothes!

@Anonymous Oh that's great! You'll have to let me know what you think of consulting 🙂 It's not for everyone but I think the people that love it, really love it. The travel and constantly working with new people and new projects is super exciting for me.
