I am Style-ish {Seattle Fashion and Beauty Blog}: My Pregnancy Style

My Pregnancy Style

8:00 AM

Since I've been pregnant, I haven't really had to change my style.  It helps that I still have a relatively small bump and that I've been able to wear all my regular pants and jeans thus far.  I know that this is going to come to an end soon as I'm at that stage where I look/feel chubby rather than pregnant and this transition period has been a bit more tough on me stylewise.  Unfortunately everything that I've found maternity wise either doesn't fit right or looks frumpy and just generally not cute on me.  I'm learning how to style this new (and growing) body of mine but it's just not quite there yet.  I think because I've always been so self conscious of appearing chubby that I'm not as open to showing off my bump.  I guess I just feel awkward showing off my stomach when it's a part that I've tried to hide all these years.  I'm slowly figuring out how to dress so will follow up with a post next week on hopefully how I've been able to zest up my pregnancy style!

I've been looking for pregnancy style blogs (which btw, are harder to find than I thought, if you guys have suggestions, please let me know!)  And am adoring these gorgeous ladies' bump style!

  1. I loved being pregnant and styling my bump. I think I only bought 2 pregnancy items: denim shorts and light khaki pants. The rest of the time I wore what was in my closet strategically and I did wear a lot of maxi dresses and skirts. My bump was not noticeable till around 6 months though...you can have a look in my blog if you want. I always get inspired by you, so maybe I can do the same for you :)

Pregnancy is a great time for style. One really gets to think about different angles and the fit even more than before.

    2. Thank you!! I will definitely check out your bump style. I will probably be the same as you and not start showing until about 6 months. I'm having such a hard time with this "is it a bump or not" stage! I'm stocking up on maxi dresses now for the summer!

  2. You're going to look lovely! Your sister has such an AMAZING sense of style - she always looks SO put together - even during pregnancy (which I think I'd live in maxi dresses and sweat pants). Watching my sister go through her pregnancy made me realize how limited maternity clothing options are. Since you're so petite I'd just go with regular tops that are more flowy (like empire waist tops).

    1. I know! and she was so tiny all throughout her pregnancy. I hope I'm as lucky as her. I'm hoping not to buy too many maternity clothes and be strategic with what's already in my closet.

  3. I've been loving all of your looks thus far - hopefully when your bump is more noticeable, you'll be more comfortable w/ showing it off! I also love Anh from 9to5Chic's pregnancy outfits, although she hasn't posted very many. Veronika from Veronika's Blushing has a very easygoing, relaxed style as well as some cute, professional outfits that go well with her bump!

Also, I am giving away a box of favorites on my blog & would love it if you stopped by to check it out :)

  4. I am fairly petite as well - I think waiting on maternity clothing is the way to go. Plus you never know how your body will respond once you start gaining weight more rapidly. I popped at 22 weeks, but can still fit into all of my current tops (for new things, I size up one). Pants are a different story, and you may find that maternity pants are just more comfy once the bump starts growing (the Bella Band was a lifesaver for me early on). It's definitely a strange time to see your body changing, but you can still stay true to your style and show off the bump!

    1. Thanks for the tips! I've been using the Bella Band, love it! I'm having a problem with maternity jeans just not fitting through the leg. Trying to find a skinny fit jean (without spending the big bucks on the designer brands) is easier said than done! I'm not too worried about tops as I tend to veer towards flowy tops anyway but for pants, it's a whole other issue for me!

    2. I find the Old Navy skinnies pretty rockin'! The Rockstar are too slender for me, but might be just right for you. Size up b/c they are super slender. For my muscular legs, I LOVE the "smooth panel skinny jeans". Good luck!

  5. i HAD to buy maternity clothes. My boobs grew from a 32C to a 36DD. Not even my flowy tops fit. Did i mention i'm 5'1"? There was a good 2-3 months of being fat and not having a bump, and then, it finally started looking like I was pregnant. Like you, I tend to dress to hide my tummy since that's my problem area. But I just embraced it during pregnancy - when else in your life is it a good thing to have a belly?! And honestly, because of my large chest, it was the only way to pull off looking normal. If I hid my stomach, I would just look huge. With the stomach, it was obvious pregnancy (and if it wasn't, I made sure to mention it in every other sentence lol). I lived in leggings, tunic tops, very few flowy tops, and some dresses for work (I'm an attorney...gotta dress somewhat professionaly occasionly). Target has some great maternity tops that are cheap. ASOS has a great maternity line (although it never fit me right). I invested in some pieces from Pea in the Pod (leggings, DVF wrap dresses bc I could wear them after). Wedges will be your best friend. Try to embrace your baby bump, and remember - everyone loves a pregnant woman! (seriously, it's amazing).

    1. ugh, I can't even talk about my boobs. I was a 32D before pregnancy so I don't even want to think about where they are going to end up later on! I'm hoping my flowy tops will still work but am going to buy some more tunic tops. I just did an order at ASOS and hoping that some will fit. I'm learning to embrace my bump, slowly but surely :)

    1. I'm sure you looked FAB during your pregnancies. I wish you had blogged so I could check out your outfits :) I'm definitely not one of those ladies that love being pregnant so I'm ready to jump ahead and just get to the baby part and skip most of the pregnant parts. LOL!

  7. I felt the same way when I was pregnant. I didn't really show until I was 5-6 months. I was so self conscious about looking chubby instead of pregnant. Once I finally "popped", I learned that fitted clothes and showing off the bump made me feel better rather than hiding in baggy clothes. I bought maternity skinny black pants, skinny jeans, and tights (all from pea in the pod) and paired them with fitted solid maternity shirts (gap had some great ones). Then, I added fun scarves or bright necklaces to style the outfit. I continued to wear heels as long as I could because that made me feel better as well. You have a great sense of style so you'll learn what works best for you!

  9. Don't worry girl, that bump will make its appearance overnight :). Especially with your first, it takes a while. So cool that you & your sister are pregs at the same time!
