Everyone has their favorite pair of jeans that molds perfectly to the body and makes us feel confident and fabulous every time we slip them on. Most likely, they’re a pair of broken-in dark wash skinnies or a slim cut pair in inky black. If there’s any time where denim shines, it’s Fall. Have fun with a few trendy pairs this season.
High-waisted denim can look dated, there’s no denying that, so picking the right fit and wash is crucial. Madewell’s version in a soft black is no-fuss perfection. Tuck a plain white tee in or a silky emerald blouse and they look great both ways.
Tip: It’s crucial to look for a waist that fits correctly when buying high-waisted jeans. Wearing a belt to cinch in extra fabric looks bulky and obvious when you tuck your tops in.
Colored denim doesn’t necessarily have to mean neon yellow. A chic eggplant will pair well with soft sweaters and brown leather (i.e. boots and bags) while still being ultra flattering on the legs. The coated finish on this pair makes them look a little more sophisticated.
Tip: Wear a top and shoes that are in the same color family so the overall look isn’t disjointed with too many different colors. Remember that neutrals go with everything!
Boyfriend jeans can be overwhelming on smaller frames. Relaxed fit or straight leg jeans have the same kind of casual vibe but won’t look saggy. These even hit at the ankle (roll them up!) to accentuate your form a little more.
Tip: Try to wear looser jeans with a heel, even if it’s a 1 inch stacked heel on your favorite pair of ankle boots.
Cropped pants are making a comeback this season, which makes perfect sense when you’re craving oxblood oxfords or shiny wing-tipped spectator heels. I like to think: the preppier the shoe, the more a cropped pant is necessary.
Tip: Do not compare cropped lengths between yoga/workout pants and denim. Denim crops should hit just above your ankle, showing off whatever adorable shoes you’re wearing.
