NYX Butter Lipstick and L’oreal Colour Riche Lip Balm Review and Swatches

When I’m at the drugstore I can’t help but browse the makeup aisle and always end up finding something I have to try.  Of course the sales always help and inevitably the buy one get one 50% off always gets me.  I’ve been trying out new lipsticks so just wanted to share my haul and review.

I was a huge fan of Revlon Lip Butters when they first came out so when I spotted the NYX Butter line I had to try them out.  I’ve actually been using the NYX Butter Lipstick for a little bit now and I am addicted.  I had two colors before and tried out two more colors and just love all of them. They go on so smooth and are moisturizing like a lip balm but the color pay off is really nice.  It’s the best of both worlds with a lipstick and a lip balm combined into one.  Compared to the Lip Butters, the color payoff is better and they go on smoother.

You can see the color is pretty true to what’s in the tube.  This was about 2 swipes to get this color which is great for a lip balm type of lipstick.

The colors I use the most are Taffy, the brighter pink and Snow Cap, which is the perfect nude for my skin tone (I actually bought two so I could keep one in my purse and one in my makeup drawer).  They run about $5.99 which I think is a fab price for what you get.  There’s a few bright shades that I want to try out but I tend to just stay with the pinks and nudes for every day wear.

When I saw that the L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Balm was on sale I wanted to try it out as I thought from the name it might be similar to the NYX Butter Lipsticks.  They are similar in that these are very moisturizing but the color payoff is very light and sheer.

These were $7.99, so a bit more than the NYX lipsticks but still inexpensive enough just to try out.  I would definitely call these more of a tint than a lipstick.  But I gotta admit, the packaging is what got me, I love the gold!

I had to swipe several times to get even this little bit of color to show up so you can imagine it’s even harder to see on the lips.  I still prefer the NYX lipsticks but if you are looking for something that’s more sheer, these are a great option.  I like to keep a sheer option in my purse for those times where you don’t want too much color on your lips so this is a great one to just always keep in there.

I've been wanting to try out those Nyx lipsticks! Hard to imagine they're even better than my beloved Revlon Lip Butters!

Ooooh! Thanks for doing this! I adore NYX products as they are so inexpensive in comparison to higher end lines. I will definitely be trying the "Snow Cap" lippy as it reminds me of my beloved MAC "Hug Me." It will be interesting to see how the two compare 🙂
