Work the Trend: Sequins

First off, thank you so much for your comments from yesterday’s post!  It’s so nice and really encouraging to get support from you guys and I hope I can do the same for you.  If any of you have questions or just want some advice on taking the risk and venturing out into your own business, please email me, I’d love to chat about it and help you decide what is best for you.  I know that it’s not for everyone but sometimes you just need that “push” to make the decision and I’d be happy to share my experiences with you.  It’s sometimes hard to reveal much about my personal life especially as my readership grows but I really believe as a blogger you need to be authentic and I want you all to know that if you guys meet me in person, I am the same on the blog as I am in “real life” and I’m always open to answering your questions from fashion to career to anything more personal.  (although I do apologize it does take a bit of time because the amount of emails I get but I try to get back to everyone as soon as I can.)

Now onto the fun fashion-y stuff! 🙂

Sequins are one of those things that I think most people just automatically think “nightime” or “party” but I’m in love with all things sequins and love it when people incorporate it into their daytime wardrobe.  While some sequins are not so work friendly, I think you can still be able to work it into your work wardrobe in subtle ways but if you’re afraid to wear them at work, wear them everywhere else!  Show up at a happy hour with your girlfriends in your sequins and I’m sure they’ll love it!  I particularly love the sequin shorts that I’ve seen a few girls wearing.  I adore them am not sure how well I can pull them offf (except OMG these shorts are SO cute, I may have to order them) so I like to work my sequins in 3 different ways.  Tops, bags and shoes, which I think is the best and easiest way for those of us that don’t want to be super daring in the fashion department.

Sequin tops are best worn with dark skinnies, pumps (you could do nude or black with any of these) and maybe just a bangle or two.  That’s it!  It’s the easiest combination of an outfit that will still get you noticed wherever you go.

Any one of these bags would take your outfit up a notch!  How could you not notice someone carrying one of these beauties?  Even with jeans and a tee you’d look amazing with one of these on your arm!

While I do love my heels, when I wear flats (even if only it’s running through airports or running errands) I want to have fun flats to do that in.  The sparkle of the sequins is the perfect way to show off your flats!
Are you loving the sequins too?  How do you wear your sequins?

Also, new post on the smarter blog!  If you are into the clutches as much as I am, hop on over for my picks and suggestions on what to wear with your clutch!

I am a fan of sequined flats and bags…I always find sequin tops rub me the wrong way…i.e irritate my skin!

I totally agree – I think sequins are a fun daytime look! Love that black top you selected. I usually wear sequins with flats and black skinnies… and a neutral bag!

@A Fine Balance I actually have that problem too. I try to find the tops that have the sequins on the bottom but I know what you mean, so itchy!

I heart shiny things… like most girls. I just purchased a pair of Sperry Sequin Bahamas in white and while I'm loving them, I am having a hard time figuring out what to wear with them- ideas?

i love ANYTHING with sequins!!! but you're right, i really DO see them as a night time thing, but I should definitely try to incorporate them more into daytime wear. definitely think sequin flats are the easiest.

i don't know if i could rock a sequin bag to work though… =P BUT OMG THAT MIU MIU SEQUIN BAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! swoon!

Tiffany!!! If you come to Vancouver, I want to meet you!!! We can go eat lots of delicious food 😉

Anyway, I actually haven't really been into sequins but I like some of those daytime sequin tops you posted. I think maybe just sequins as accent details are more my thing than full-on sequined items.

@CessOviedo it is harder on dresses because it can make it a bit too dressy so I know what you mean. I love sparkles too! Glitter and sequins, it's all good to me! 🙂

@Christi um I just looked them up, those are SO CUTE!! You may have convinced me to get them too.

The perfect outfit I'm envisioning is a striped shirt, rolled up jeans and the Sperrys. Adorable! Or maybe a flouncy denim skirt like the one I'm wearing here with a v neck tee and cardigan.

Nice tips! I usually go for sequin tops. Sequin bags look a bit too kiddy for me, but I have seen others execute them well.

i love sequence!! I bought a jcrew sequenced top over winter…but haven't had the change to wear it yet!! But i think they're a strong "statement maker"

I love wearing sequins in the daytime. It's an automatic 'look at me!' outfit. And I adore that sequined crossbody bag! I can just see myself going to do some serious shopping/sightseeing with a white tee, skinnies, and let that bag do all the talking!

big fan of having sequins make the outfit pop! been into glitter too.. like glitter nails, glitter heels/flats (the christian louboutin glitter flats!), or a glitter belt.. spices up a normal look right away!
