The La Mesa neighborhood of San Diego is more of a residential area and not necessarily a tourist hotspot. However, if you ever find yourself in the area I’d make a point of stopping by Farmer’s Table, a charming restaurant with exceptionally warm hospitality and a great al fresco dining setup.
Farmer’s Table starts dinner service at 4pm, perfect time for a cocktail or two! The cocktails are strong and generously portioned. The Blackberry Basil Lemonade on the right was especially great and my pick off the current menu.
The appetizers and small plates portions of the menu are especially strong at Farmer’s Table. I found the portions to be surprisingly large, making this spot a great place to bring a few friends and try several interesting dishes. Not to be missed are the jars. We picked the Burrata, which was delicious with candied pecans and figs. From the apps, we went with our server’s recommendation for the Stuffed Portobello, which were filling and savory.
We were excited by a lot of the entrees on the menu but most of all by the Duck Gnocchi and the Black Truffle Pizza. The theme of Farmer’s Table seemed to be generosity since both dishes were above average in portion size for their price. That is not to say that quality wavered. Each bite was just as delicious until we were stuffed full.
Lastly, I want to note that service was warm, friendly and professional throughout our entire dining experience at Farmer’s Table. I would highly recommend for a date night this summer, and make sure to request the patio for seating!
