Halloween makeup isn’t the most versatile, which is why it makes sense to save where you can and not think too hard about it. Here’s a little secret. Your favorite 90s makeup brand is pretty much guaranteed to have whatever you need this Halloween season. Make a bee-line at your nearest Walmart to the Hard Candy section of the beauty aisles to pick up the glitter palette or purple-y black lipstick you need to transform into a mermaid or zombie on October 31.
Now the only hard part left is to watch those YouTube makeup tutorials and practice.
If you’re planning on painting on intensely highlighted cheekbones, the Hard Candy Look Pro! Non-Touring Glamour Duo would be an amazing option since it comes with a matte cream to rub in before swiping on the shimmer stick-side for glowy rose-gold cheeks that will last all night. Think of the matte cream as a “primer” for your highlighter; it’s that serious.
Hard Candy Fierce Effects Lipstick is a little drying, but for $5 and 24 less-common shades (like sky blue and emerald green) it’s an excellent find if you need some out-there lip colors for your Halloween makeup. I tried out “Tempt Me,” a dark purple, and “Crave,” a deep aubergine, which are two of the six matte shades.
I imagine the Hard Candy Poppin Pigments are good for ethereal Halloween makeup where you want to be covered in a light dusting of gossamer-like sparkles. Like a fairy. The pigments come in a packaging of three shades and “Flaunt It” comes with a pale pink, purple and white-reflects. There isn’t much pigmentation behind the actual shimmer so the effect is better as an all-over application. Like mixing in with your body-lotion or foundation etc.
But if a sprinkling of glitter pigment isn’t going to cut it for you, get your hands on the Hard Candy Glitteratzi. These palettes really pack on the glitter in a clear gel base. The included sponge applicator really is the best way to apply. “Rock My World” has a larger gold and silver tray which are really the most versatile shades when it comes to dipping your face in glitter.
Waterproof jet-black pencil eyeliner isn’t Halloween specific, but since you’re already there, toss the Hard Candy Stay in Line into your basket since it’s only $5. I specifically like that the pencil isn’t too soft like a lot of ultra-pigmented black pencil liners.
