Gift ideas: top toys for babies and toddlers

top 10 toys for babies and toddlers

Babies require so much and I feel like we as parents, do so much research on the big essentials like cribs, strollers, car seats, but when it comes to toys, it can be tough to figure out what our babies will even play with!  I do think that toys are essential to a baby’s development so I like to get toys that will help when hitting certain milestones or something that will help them along as they learn a new skill.

Edie is a little over one and starting to really play and interact with a lot more toys which I love! It’s been so fun to watch her grow into her toys and figure out how they work and how to play with them.

This post is sponsored by Walmart.  All opinions are my own.

Both my girls respond really well to music so a lot of our toys are very musical in which we dance or sing along too.  Most of these toys we used for both girls and I’ve found that most of my friends have for their babies as well.

Walmart is my go to for all things baby. It’s nice to be able to shop for everything there, from sleeping and lounge essentials (I love their organic bedding) to high chairs and other meal time essentials and of course toys! Prices are always some of the best that I can find and they frequently do roll back pricing on so many baby essentials.

Toys that transition well from baby to toddler

Let’s be real, babies are not interested in toys for awhile but it’s nice to have some toys around to show them how to play and interact.  I love these that started out as just something interesting for her to look at/touch to now being able to play with them.

The Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes is always the first toy that I recommend to parents.  Every baby that we have gifted it to, loves it!  The button is large so babies love to press it and hear all the music that plays from it.  It’s also a great toy for them to chew on and it’s very durable.

I just got the Fisher Price Dance and Groove Rockit for Edie a few months ago but it is one of our most played with toys!  Even my 6 year old loves to play with it.  We love how it lights up and dances and one of the best parts is that it has a spot where you can record your voice and then plays it back to you in a silly/cute voice!  We love recording our voices and saying funny things or just laughing and hearing the toy play it back to us.

The Activity Walker was something that I knew we had to get early on as Edie was never a fan of crawling and much preferred to stand and walk along furniture/walls.  She took to the walker so fast and really loved being able to walk around.  She also loves to pick up the phone and talk into it! Even if they are not standing/stable just yet, the activity panel in front has so many fun buttons to press with music and fun sounds.

The Musical Rhymes Book is a lot of fun for all of us.  We love to read and sing along and Edie loves to flip the pages and hit all the buttons.  She has favorites now that she will always press the same button or go to the page to listen to that song.

My oldest daughter loved playing with Little People as they are perfect size for little hands to grasp.  I just saw Little People Frozen Elsa’s Ice Palace and had to get it for Edie!  It’s just so cute and looks like a lot of fun.  I know both the girls will love to play with it.

Non Musical Baby Toys

Sometimes you just don’t need all the music and bells and whistles, my favorite “quiet” toys is the Pipsquigz set! Love that they suction on to tables, stick to each other and just do so much!  It’s such a great toy to keep them busy in the car or in restaurants.

The Pounding Bench with mallet is entertaining and fun! It’s cute to watch her play with or without the mallet and figure out how the characters go down or pop up.

Edie loves to take things out of bags.  She will find my purse or the diaper bag and pull everything out of it!  I love that she can mimic the same thing with this fishbowl toy.  She loves to take out the toys after I put them in!

What toys has your baby been loving?  Let me know in the comments or on instagram, I would love to know!
