How to keep your kids motivated during virtual school

My daughter has been doing remote learning for almost a year now and it started out a bit rough, but we finally have a good routine for her. Although she misses her friends and classmates, she is really thriving with virtual school.

This post is in partnership with Sunbelt Bakery. All opinions are mine.

How to keep your kids motivated during virtual school

Here are a few things that I’ve found to that have really helped to keep her motivated and wanting to learn.

Keep them on the same schedule as school – We get her up at the same time, get dressed, do breakfast, etc… and when it’s time for school she has to be in her seat at a specific time. Even when she doesn’t have her virtual class at that time, we still have her sit down at her desk and look through the assignments for that day.

Make “recess” fun – Kids love recess to play with their friends. Since we don’t have that anymore, I try to make those times really fun during the day so that after a few hours on her virtual classes she has something really fun to look forward to.

I either have a craft/activity that we can do together or we make it into a fun snack time!

On this day I set up a picnic with our favorite Sunbelt Bakery granola bars in her tent with her stuffie friends!

These Oatmeal Raisin Chewy Granola Bars are so good and I love that Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars are made with whole grains and no preservatives. They are the perfect afternoon snack and we had such a blast on our little indoor picnic!

When Layla first tried them she said “YUM! These take like cookies!” So I made her a fun “milk and cookies” picnic. She has been talking about this for days and can’t wait to do it again!

I love the bakery-fresh taste and the Oatmeal Raisin flavor is so good. I’m so glad that it’s back by popular demand! I’m stocking up to make sure we always have some in our pantry. You can find these and a wide variety of other flavors from Sunbelt Bakery online and in stores!

No distractions allowed – If you can, try to section off a spot just for their school time so that they know that this is where you do all your schoolwork. I don’t allow her to keep any toys in the area and we make sure to keep her little sister away too so that she doesn’t have any distractions.

Take some time off before diving into homework – After being on the computer in her virtual class, it gets hard to have to sit through another hour or more of homework. When her classes end, I give her some time to do whatever she wants. When we do go back to her desk to finish her homework, she feels refreshed and ready to learn and finish her homework!

It can be hard to keep our kids on track especially while they are learning at home, but hopefully these tips can help! Let me know your tips on keeping your kids motivated during virtual learning as well!
